What is Chinese Prune Candy?
Chinese Prune Candy, also known as plum black sugar, is made from black sugar and natural plum essence. It has a smooth surface, delicate taste, crispy texture, and is rich in caramel and black sugar flavors.
It's different from Chinese Plum Candy. Strictly speaking, plum is not considered a dessert in China, but a snack. Compared to Chinese Plum Candy, Chinese Prune Candy is completely a hard candy with plum flavor.
It uses black sugar as a base. Black sugar is a type of cane sugar that has not been highly refined and shaped with honey (similar to brown sugar), also known as red sugar or purple sugar. It is a red crystal made from the juice of the stem of the sugarcane, a gramineous herbaceous plant, and contains rich sugars, minerals, and glyceric acid.
Adding plum meat to black sugar gives this candy a sour and sweet taste, which is very delicious.
Health Benefits of Chinese Prune Candy
In Chinese culture, it's believed that brown sugar carries a multitude of health benefits. It's thought to boost energy, nourish the blood, strengthen the spleen, warm the stomach, disperse cold, and improve circulation by breaking up stagnation. This makes it especially beneficial for new mothers, children, and those suffering from anemia. Beyond its health properties, brown sugar is also prized for its detoxifying effects due to the presence of molasses. This component is capable of drawing excess melanin from the dermis and expelling it through the lymphatic system. Furthermore, brown sugar contains vital nutrients like beta-carotene, riboflavin, niacin, amino acids, and glucose, which not only enhance skin smoothness and allure but also promote the renewal of sun-exposed skin, offering cosmetic benefits.
Prune meat, on its own, stimulates saliva production and quenches thirst. It's rich in fiber, potassium, calcium, and vitamins A, B1/B2, and aids in digestion. The combination of brown sugar and prune meat creates a supreme indulgence, perfectly marrying their health and wellness benefits.
Who invented Prune Candy?
"Prune Candy", known for its unique taste, was popular among the people of Taiwan in the early days. In 2012, JinGuan, a well-known candy brand in mainland China, launched the packaged food version of Prune Candy. Each piece of JinGuan Plum Brown Sugar is made by JinGuan Foods using its exclusive sugar boiling technology, incorporating more than 25% pure brown sugar and over 10% delicious dried plums, thereby completely conquering the discerning consumers.
Therefore, no one knows who the inventor of Prune Candy is, but JinGuan is the first modern candy brand to industrialize its production.
